34th International Competition for Early Music

I)       Categories: 1) Solo Vocal
2) Baroque Era Melodic Instrument

II)      Repertoire (The Jury will select the pieces or excerpts to be
performed,  repeats at the discretion of the performer)

1)      Solo Vocal
A thirty-minute program of repertoire from the baroque era,
combined such pieces as bellow (at least 2 languages must be used) :

    ① Piece composed or published from mid-16th century to 1640s        
② Piece composed or published from the mid- to end-17th century  
③ Recitative and Aria by A. Vivaldi, J.A. Hasse, or a French composer
      
2) Melodic Instrument
・Common pieces for woodwind instruments
      (e.g. Recorder, Baroque flute, Baroque oboe):

 ① 17th century Variations (eg division, diminution, passaggi, etc)        
② Own choice piece from J.-F. Rebel: Receuils de douse Sonates (1712)         ③ Own choice Sonata from G.Ph.Telemann: Zwölf Methodische Sonaten
(1728, 1732)  

・Recorder:
        ① Own choice Concerto by A.Vivaldi
        ② Contemporary piece composed after 1960s
(about 10 minutes duration)

・Baroque flute & Baroque oboe:
        ① Own choice Sonata by J.S.Bach (unaccompanied,
with Basso Continuo, with obligato etc.)

・Baroque violin:
         ① 17th century Variations (eg division, diminution, passaggi, tc) 
    ② Own choice piece from J.H.Schmelzer: Sonatae unarum Fidium 
③ Own choice Sonata by François Francoeur
④ Own choice Sonata from G.Ph.Telemann: Zwölf Methodische
Sonaten (1728, 1732)
⑤ Own choice Concerto by A.Vivaldi

・Viola da gamba:
         ① Own choice pieces by Tobias Hume (about 10 minutes)  
② A.Kühnel: Herr Jesu Christ, du höchstes Gut
③Own choice Suite by Louis de Caix d’Hervelois
  ④ Own choice Sonata by G.Ph.Telemann

・Cello:
  ① Own choice Canzon by G.Frescobaldi
② Own choice 2 pieces from G.B.Vitali: Partite sopra diverse
Sonate       
③ Own choice Sonata by A. Vivaldi
④ Own choice Sonata by G.Ph. Telemann

・Instrumentalists not mentioned above:        
Please compile an own-choice program of about thirty minutes  

     Note for both categories: Accompaniment for opera, concerto,
 or chamber  music, etc. must be transcribed for one instrument

III)       Accompanying Instruments (applicants may be accompanied
   by lutenist or guitarist etc.)

     The committee provides three harpsichords:                 

One Italian harpsichord, transposable 415/A440/A466                       
Two double-manual harpsichords, transposable A415,A440

IV) Terms of Entry

a) The competition is open to anyone, regardless of age, nationality or
experience

・Application period: 1.3. 2023 – 31.3.2023

b) Applicants must submit the following:

・Completed application form
・List of pieces, including the duration and pitch of each piece
・Six copies of all scores (except ② for gambists) in A4 format,   
each piece bound separately
(Application form, Program and Copies of music must be sent together and received by  March 31, 2023 at the latest)

c) A registration fee of JPY 10.000 must be paid by March 31, 2023
